Dry Eye Disease Management and Treatment

Dry Eye Disease is one of the most common problems we treat for our patients. While it may sound simple, Dry Eye Disease is a complex problem with a variety of treatment options. How Do We Treat Dry Eye?

If you’re experiencing dry eye symptoms, the first step is to schedule an assessment to determine the exact cause. Once we have a clear understanding of your condition, we can recommend personalized treatment options based on your specific needs. At New River Vision Care, we specialize in advanced dry eye treatments, including the latest solutions like OptiLight by Lumenis and ZEST® Ocular Treatment.

OptiLight by Lumenis

OptiLight is a light-based, non-invasive treatment performed in the area below the eyes to manage dry eye. It’s the first and only IPL (intense pulsed light) FDA-approved for dry eye management. The treatment is safe, gentle, and supported by more than 20 clinical studies.

How does OptiLight work?

OptiLight uses precise pulses of light to reduce the inflammation associated with dry eye disease, improve tear break-up time, and enhance meibomian gland function. It can also help reduce Demodex mites and bacteria around the eyes and eliminate blood vessels contributing to inflammation.

While OptiLight has been proven to be an effective dry eye solution, we’ll discuss all relevant factors during your initial consultation to ensure it’s the right treatment for you. After treatment, you can usually resume your daily activities immediately, though you may experience some redness that typically fades within a few hours. Avoid direct sunlight and apply sunscreen for a few days following the procedure.

ZEST® Ocular Treatment

Another option we offer for dry eye relief is ZEST, an innovative in-office deep cleansing treatment that focuses on the eyelids. With over 85% of dry eye issues originating from the eyelids, ZEST addresses this root cause using patented Zokrex™ technology, ZocuKit™ instruments, and a soothing okra-based gel. The procedure takes just about 15 minutes and provides fast, effective results with minimal discomfort.

Dr. Ortiz may recommend periodic ZEST sessions to maintain long-term relief and promote lasting eye health. Like OptiLight, ZEST is designed to be a safe and efficient way to manage dry eye, allowing you to get back to your routine right after treatment.
